THE LAB: FILM PRODUCTION CURRICULUM

Welcome to TMOC Academy, where aspiring filmmakers embark on a transformative journey through our multi-week training program. Led by industry professionals, this course provides a comprehensive education in the filmmaking process, covering writing, lighting, audio, and directing. Students will have the unique opportunity to collaborate on a real movie project titled "Only God Can Change Me," which will be showcased during a thrilling 10-city national tour. Join us in this inspiring community, where creativity meets purpose!

WEEK 1: PRE-PRODUCTION & CASTING LOGISTICS.

  • The Goal: Making the movie look "Big Screen" quality.

  • Key Topics: The Three-Point Lighting system, camera movement (pans, tilts, dollies), and framing shots.

  • Hands-on: Setting up a "Dramatic Lighting" look for a scene between Frank and Charlene.

  • Bonus: Students get to see how a professional score is built!

WEEK 2: SCREENWRITING & STORY DEVELOPMENT

  • The Goal: Turning a powerful vision into a production-ready script.

  • Key Topics: Character arcs, formatting dialogue, and structuring a 12-episode series or feature film.

  • Hands-on: Refining character dynamics and drafting a pivotal dramatic scene.

WEEK 3: CAMERA TECHNIQUE & DIRECTING THE CAST

  • The Goal: Capturing the emotion and pacing of the scene perfectly on camera.

  • Key Topics: Blocking actors, shot lists, and managing crew communication on set.

  • Hands-on: Directing a rehearsal layout for lead characters to practice pacing.

WEEK 4: AUDIO PRODUCTION & SOUNDSCAPES

  • The Goal: Achieving crisp, professional theater and film audio quality.

  • Key Topics: Boom mic operation, lavalier placement, and capturing clean environmental sound.

  • Hands-on: Setting up audio capture for an intense dialogue exchange.

WEEK 5: LIGHTING DESIGN & CINEMATOGRAPHY

  • The Goal: Using advanced lighting to create high-end, dramatic, "big screen" visuals.

  • Key Topics: Advanced three-point lighting setups, mood creation, and matching lens selection to the emotional tone of a scene.

  • Hands-on: Lighting a highly emotional scene to make the cinematic storytelling pop.

WEEK 6: POST-PRODUCTION & EDITING LOGISTICS

  • The Goal: Using advanced lighting to create high-end, dramatic, "big screen" visuals.

  • Key Topics: Advanced three-point lighting setups, mood creation, and matching lens selection to the emotional tone of a scene.

  • Hands-on: Lighting a highly emotional scene to make the cinematic storytelling pop.

WEEK 6: POST-PRODUCTION & EDITING LOGISTICS

  • The Goal: Piece together the captured footage into a seamless, gripping narrative.

  • Key Topics: Rough cuts, pacing, visual transitions, and assembling media assets into a modular structure.

  • Hands-on: Sitting with the editing layout to see how a scene's pacing completely changes the story's impact.

WEEK 7: MUSIC SCORING & SOUND DESIGN

  • The Goal: Building a powerful, professional audio score that drives the movie's message.

  • Key Topics: Working with a music workstation, layering audio cues, and blending dialogue with background arrangements.

  • Hands-on: Watching a professional score get built live to see how music elevates theatrical and film drama.

WEEK 8: MARKETING, DISTRIBUTION & THE TOUR PROJECT

  • The Goal: Launching the final movie project and preparing it for a national platform.

  • Key Topics: Independent film marketing, merchandise coordination, and managing logistics for a 10-city national tour.

  • Hands-on: Final project review and a live walkthrough of the upcoming tour distribution strategy.
